The changing requirements of application delivery solutions

Technology Decisions

December 9, 2014

[Authored by Akamai’s Gary Ballabio, product line director, Enterprise Web]

The correlation between the success of a company and its operational agility is no secret - the faster an enterprise is able to tackle new challenges and introduce new innovations, the more likely it is to be successful in those areas.

The rapid pace of technological developments in the modern world has introduced wrinkles to this paradigm and left many businesses shackled to old methods of networking and legacy hardware even as new means of application delivery offer a path forward.

The first step to understanding how businesses can take advantage of these new options is to consider where enterprise application delivery has come from and where it's going.

Cloud services provider Akamai reviews 2014 and previews 2015

The Star

December 8, 2014

It has been quite a year for cloud services provider Akamai. In June, the company streamed the FIFA World Cup 2014 and experienced the highest traffic in the company's history. Later in the year, it was faced with a challenge with 17 DDoS (Denial of service) attacks, which it helped mitigate. But it’s the future that the company is concerned about. Rick Lanman, the regional manager of Akamai Technologies, Asean, looks back at the year and whips out his crystal ball for the future.

Forget second screen experiences — it’s time for third screen

Venture Beat

December 9, 2014

For some time now, both the entertainment and gaming worlds have been delivering second screen experiences, aiming to capitalize on the powerful attachment consumers have to their various devices. Yet while the potential to exploit the second screens of cell phones and tablets is vast, the reality is that the exercise has largely been hit and miss. Many second screen exploits turn out to be no more than a disappointing ‘also-ran’ experience — consumers can quickly sniff out when a games publisher or broadcast property has approached the entire endeavor as a box-check.

“On one hand we have the device makers making devices, and on the other hand we have content makers making content,” says Troy Snyder, Vice President and Executive Producer at Akamai Technologies. “In many instances, the digital production world just shoehorns them together into simply a repurposed or reformatted experience.”

"The company recognizes that now is the time to capture and retain market share of new content delivery products and will continue to spend aggressively on operating and capital expenditures," said Horan, who said he recently met with management.
