About Nested Clips

Clips can be included or “nested” within a parent test clip just as with other clip elements. A nested clip in a parent test clip has its own properties.

The clip below begins with a nested clip, Login, which can be copied/pasted into each new clip that requires it. Just as with any other clip element, relevant context menu commands can be accessed for a selected nested clip via right click.

Nested Clips in Other Containers

Nested clips can be placed within other containers with the exception of pages.

In the screenshot on the right, a clip is nested within an If-Then-Else container. The property, wpName, checks whether a user is logged in, and then takes subsequent action based on the response.

Opening a Nested Clip in a New Tab

    • To view the contents of a nested clip, click its diagonal arrow.

When you do so, the nested clip opens up in its own tab.

Clips Tab in Clip Editor

The Clips tab in the Clip Editor lower panel is used to add nested clips to a parent test clip that is open in the Clip Editor. Clips can be added either by drag-and-drop or by select-and-double-click methods.

Add a Nested Clip in Icon View

Use the following steps to nest a clip into a parent clip in Icon view. In the example provided, a clip that does login for a target site will be nested within other clips that use the same site.

    1. Open the parent clip in the Clip Editor.
    2. Click the Clips tab on the lower panel, locate the clip to nest, and then drag it into the desired location in the parent clip.

When you do so, the clip is added after the selection. The new nested clip is selected once added. Since our example nested clip will serve as a convenient means to login a user, it is placed at the beginning of the parent clip.

  1. Click Save in the parent clip after making any changes.

Adding a Nested Clip in List View

Use the following steps to nest a clip into a parent clip in List view.
