SHA-2 SSL/TLS certificates now available

Blog Post created by Rajiv Aaron Manglani Employee on Jan 30, 2015

On February 2, 2015 Akamai will transition to SHA-2 SSL/TLS certificates for single, wildcard, and SAN certificates. New certificate orders, and renewals of existing certificates will default to SHA-2. Extended Validation (EV) certificates have already been issued as SHA-2 since November. Third-party certificates on the Akamai platform are unaffected by this change.

On February 9, 2015, we will start reissuing existing SHA-1 certificates using the SHA-2 algorithm. The expiration date of the certificate will not change when reissued. No actions are necessary to take advantage of this upgrade. If you wish to continue using SHA-1 certificates, or need to schedule deployment of the reissued certificate, please reach out to your account team or Customer Care prior to February 9.
