17 years ago today Akamai became an incorporated company and since then we have grown from a handful of dedicated, MIT graduates to a multi-billion business that operates the world’s largest and most advanced distributed platform for accelerating and securing web content and applications of all kinds, from media and software downloads to dynamic and personalized content for the world’s most important applications.
Today is also the day that Shomi launches nationally within Canada.
Shomi, a joint venture between Rogers Communications and Shaw Media, launched their subscription based service in Q4 2014 and while in beta it was initially only available to customers of Shaw and Rogers. Today anyone in Canada with a credit card can now subscribe to this on demand streaming service.
The momentum of Over The Top (OTT) video delivery has been discussed by Dr Tom Leighton, Akamai's co-founder and CEO, on various investor calls.
Be sure of this, the tip of the iceberg is here and Akamai is investing heavily to ensure we deliver the best possible online experience to any device, any time, anywhere.
