Deploying ETS in mid-scale development environment to work with ESI

we want to utilize the ESI feature of Akamai. We have a web presence in multiple countries, and Akamai will be rolled-out one by one. This would mean our back-end code must detect requests being done through Akamai or not. Also, our development environment must be able to "simulate" ESI.

To cover the first part, we'd check the HTTP Via header. For the second part (ETS integration into development environment) we need a little advice, please. I understand we can install ETS to achieve this. Our development is based on docker images, shared Nginx.

Are there any best practices, experiences or known pit-falls available to bring ETS to a bigger development team?

Thanks for any further tips,
