Session Title: Solving Everyday Problems with Next Generation Mapping

Speaker: Liz Borowsky

Abstract:

In this session we look under the covers of Akamai’s Mapping system to show how data and control combine to improve performance across the internet, in local geographies, and in mobile networks. I will start by contrasting the traditional strategies of anycast based mapping and nameserver based mapping, showing data comparing the two approaches. I’ll show the benefits and flaws inherent with each strategy, and discuss how Akamai’s nameserver based mapping system is evolving to give you the best of both worlds. I’ll discuss recent work to improve performance for mobile end users, and highlight some of the work we’re doing to give tailored performance for all classes of end users and traffic, and to reduce congestion in the internet itself.
